“One person’s trash is another’s treasure.” In June this year, three carriers containing a total of 10 cats were abandoned in the shelter parking lot. Where they came from and what took place to bring them to us, we don’t know. The “Treasures”, as we call them, are learning to trust us. Some of them quickly recognized human contact while others weren’t sure of our role. Time, patience and unconditional TLC is what they needed and continue to receive. There were seven adult females and two adult males and one newborn who sadly didn’t make it. “Time heals all wounds” and the proof is with the Treasures. What a delightful group of cats! We have been learning about the cats’ personalities and finding out what would be the best home environment for each one. Sapphire’s approximate date of birth is July 2008. She is a small lady who enjoys the company of other cats. She was one of the ones who took a while to trust staff and would do well in a quiet home. She had no objection to posing for the camera while we took many pictures, because she wants you to see that the unusual pattern of scattered white hairs amid all the black makes her sparkle like the gem she is. Jessica is the sweetest girl. She was brought in last June as a skinny stray. Unfortunately no one claimed her so she is needing a forever home. She doesn’t mind other cats (she is a resident in the Sunroom which has about 30 cats living in it), she is very people-oriented, curious about you and sitting calmly to have her picture taken, and gently cuddling up to sit quietly on your lap. A very polite, pretty girl who would fit in well with any home environment. Please consider adopting her this week!  Tia MariaDomestic Short Hair-Gray [Mix] Size: Medium Age: Adult Sex: Female Pet ID: c249-11-09 Lovely Tia Maria, whom we featured last May, arrived at our shelter on November 13, 2009 and was placed in a foster home to allow an open wound on her back leg to heal. The extra care and attention she received allowed her to fully recover, and she's a healthy and fit lady cat. She enjoys the company of other cats but does take a bit of time to feel comfortable with them. She's now spent her entire kittenhood at our shelter and has been waiting a very long time for a family to call her own. She soon gave birth to her kittens, who all have found their forever homes. Tanya, though, still is waiting. She is a sweet girl who will make an ideal pet for any home environment. She's very laid back, gets along well with other cats, loves having people-time, will play with toys or even just hang out. You couldn't ask for a better cat companion!  Yvette Female dilute calico Size: medium Age: Adult Petfinder ID: c83-06-09 Pretty Yvette arrived at our shelter in mid-June 2009, already spayed. She was never claimed, so was obviously abandoned. Shelter life was a tough adjustment for this lady, and on arrival she let us know how unimpressed she was with other cats. While she since has learned to cope surrounded by other felines, she has a very strong personality and would do best as the only pet in the household. Yvette's favourite thing is her one-on-one time with humans, so if you are looking for a lovely cat who will give you an abundance of affection in the form of head rubs and kisses, come in and see her today.
