Losing a pet can be frightening, and finding a stray animal can feel overwhelming. The Gananoque & District Humane Society is here to help reunite pets with their families as quickly and safely as possible.

Whether you’ve lost a pet or found one, please follow the steps below.

Lost a Pet
Act quickly — many pets are found close to home.

1. Contact the Shelter
Call or email us to report your missing pet so we can check if they’ve already been brought in.

2. File a Lost Pet Report
Submit a Lost Pet Report using the form below. Please include:

Pet’s name
Species and breed
Colour and markingsAge and sex
Collar or microchip details
Last seen location
A clear photo

4. Spread the Word
Public awareness is one of the most powerful tools in reuniting lost pets with their families — the more people who know to watch for your pet, the better the chances of bringing them home.

Post in local Facebook groups
Contact nearby veterinary clinics
Check community bulletin boards

Found a Pet
If you’ve found an animal, please report it rather than keeping it. There may be a distraught family hoping for their beloved pet to come home.

1. Check for Identification
Look for a tag on the collar or a phone number.

2. Contact the Shelter
We may already have a report from the owner searching for their pet.

3. Submit a Found Pet Report
Provide as much detail as possible, including:

Where the pet was found
Date and time
Description of the pet
Photo (if available)

4. Do Not Post Exact Location
This helps ensure the animal is reunited with the correct owner.
