New Kennels!
We are so excited to share our new kennels in our Quarantine section. You can see in the first picture the difference between the two. It took many years to fundraise for these kennels. Our new kennels are made of surgical steel and are easy to disinfect. Our old kennels were very old and were breaking beyond repair. It was also very hard to clean/disinfect the old kennels due to wear and tear. By not being able to disinfect the kennels properly, the risk of cross contamination increases. Our new kennels should reduce that risk and we will hopefully see a decrease in virus transmission. We would like to thank Tims Hortons Gananoque for choosing GDHS to be a recipient for a smile cookie campaign, one of our long time volunteers for hand making cat nip toys and pet beds and to our supporters for their donations that were specifically for our new kennels. This is just the beginning. We hope to replace more of our kennels in the future

The Ivy Restaurant
A HUGE shout out to volunteers Linda G and Christine G for taking on a huge project! The Ivy Restaurant reached to us a few months ago asking us if we would like to take their empty alcohol containers that they accumulated over the summer. Christine and Linda volunteered to go to the Ivy Restaurant (on average) once a week to collect recyclables from storage at the Ivy and take them to the Beer Store. It took many weeks and trips to return all the bottles but Linda took the last bunch about a week ago. Grand total is $720.60 That is ALOT of bottles and very generous of the Ivy to donate this to us. Going forward, the Ivy Restaurant has kindly offered us their empty alcohol containers. We are so grateful! Our ongoing bottle drive is one of our more popular fundraisers. We have a special tent next to the building to drop off empty alcohol containers: Any time, any day.

"Not only did we sample the best chili in the 1000 Islands but all money raised was divided among Gananoque & District Humane Society, Mumma's Here Now Neonatal Rescue and Lyndhurst Feral Cat Project.
The Band of Beans Chili Cook Off Fundraiser raised $1975.55 That amount was divided amongst the 3 participating rescues, which translated to $658.53 for each rescue. Besides chili tasting, we raised approximately $500 from our bake sale table, $95.50 from our 50/50 draw, money from our donation jar and $310 from from our silent auction.
The winner of our 50/50 Draw was Chelsea, taking home $95.50. There were approximately 111 chili tasters. We tallied the votes and the winner was Lorna W. (Number 5) representing Lyndhurst Feral Cat Project
Second Place was Rob E. from Eikon Device Inc. (Number 11) representing Gananoque & District Humane Society, Third Place was Helen H. (Number 9) representing Gananoque & District Humane Society. Honorable mention was Susie A. (Number 12) representing Lyndhurst Feral Cat Project. Mumma’s Here Now Neonatal Rescue did an amazing job with the bake sale table. We were all amazed with the amount of items we received. All items that were donated to our bake sale table were SOLD.
We had a great line up of musical talent: Kevin Head & Head Over Heels, Yesterday's Wine and William Crawford. All musicians volunteered their time and talent to our event.
Thank you to all the volunteers and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 92, Gananoque. We could not have done this without you.

Our special girl Anna visiting Carveth!
Anna, who was adopted May 2022, visited Carveth Care Centre twice this year! The residents really enjoyed her company. Here is what volunteer Jerry had to say about her second visit: "As she did during our 1st visit, Anna gracefully walked around the room to say hello to her friends and received her treats. She was happy and very comfortable to visit again. I think she remembered her 1st visit with the seniors. Her tail swaying gently from side to side told the happy visit story. They loved seeing her back and were delighted that there are interested homes that might give her a forever home."

Brianna from Fox Photography provided the pictures you see with this post! A prize draw was held as well! Beggar's Banquet Books and East Coast Lifestyle donated fantastic prizes as well as generous community members. A big shout out to all our walkers who braved the weather and joined us. Our top fundraiser was Tina Gladu, who raised $1,200. At the end of the day, GDHS raised just over $3,100. We could not have done this without all involved, especially GDHS fundraising volunteer, Helen, who worked tirelessly to make this happen. Going forward, we would like to build on the walk and add more vendors and entertainment. We will be sharing more information well in advance of the walk. We look forward to seeing you all again next year! |
